Be the change

yiyun | 7:13 PM | Be the first to comment!
I read one of my friend's blog, a future lawyer studying at LSE, and was greatly impressed by her post.

" Yknow phrases like "I'll show you some respect when you show me some respect"? Ahh, I can't stand those! Rather than perpetuate a cycle of respect, more often than not, it sends the message that a chain of disrespect is fine because "the other guy isn't showing me respect".
WHY, PEOPLE. WHY?

If everyone waits for someone to show them respect first, then who is going to start? Logically, if most people live by that saying, it wouldn't be a problem because it really is a positive Domino effect.. But in reality, if no one knocks down the first Domino, how are the rest going to fall? The idea that respect should be earned is fair enough and often enough, one earns respect when he treats those inferior with respect as well but the phrase on its own is already so confrontational, I can't imagine being willing to succumb to someone who lives by those principles.

Why wait for someone else to do something good? If we all know that respecting and treating people well is something that we should be doing, shouldn't we just be nice on our own accord?

ALSO, the whole concept of "you're nice to me, I'm nice to you" is fine and dandy but I hate it when it turns into "I'm nice to you, and thus you should be nice to me". Of course, it is GOOD to be nice to people. And it's WONDERFUL to appreciate the effort of others. But when you do something for someone, don't get so affronted when your expectation of something in return is instead a "I didn't ask you to".

It's a fair statement to make but it gets people so offended. Feeling hurt is one thing because that's just a feeling that comes with unmet expectations.. But feeling angry? That, I don't understand. You do something for someone to make them happy and when they don't give you the reaction you want, did you really do it for their joy.. Or was it for a response?"

I truly agree with what she wrote.

Yea, I admit sometime when I do good to someone, I expect them to treat me the same. If someone din't pay the respect I due, I got very angry and don't respect them anymore which I felt really guilty.

We should not demand respect, but earn it.
We should not expect others returning your kindness, but keep showing others kindness, as God showed you kindness.
We should be the change of this world, set an example to the others, influencing others but not succumb to these negative principle in our world now.
Be the light and the salt in this world, Be the change.

AMOS

yiyun | 2:23 PM | 3 Comments so far

Introducing my puppy (well, he will be forever a puppy in my heart) .....AMOS!
It's like a gift from heaven, from God, to me.

Well, I requested a dog for my birthday present.
Not from my parents, (and definitely not from my boyfriend because I don't have one),
but from my Father in heaven.

Tadaaa, here is my dog.
Can u believe it?? Such a cute poodle, found near my grandma's house at Penang
(Yes we smuggled it back in a bag by a bus) =P

* We left it outside the house (at Penang) for few days but none came to claim him...till now.
Out of compassion, my mum adopted him, with all 4 little kids full support.

Such a cutie, isn't he?
But don't be fool by it's appearance!
It's mischievous level is indescribable, and he is surprisingly intelligent yet not disciplined.

But time came when we need to say goodbye. It's hard to give him up to another owner but it's for his best.
I missed all the memories we had together.
I was used to him sitting by my side when I am studying for my SPM late at night, used to him jumping excitedly each time I came back after school or after matrics, used to him running to my side whenever I called him, used to him sleeping on my lap....

I missed his companion, I missed his bark and everything about him =(

friends

" Once, there were two best friends.

They promised they will invite each other as her maid-of-honor.

They promised to remain best friends forever.

They promised to do a lot of things together......

One day, something unexpected happened.

They decided not to talk to each other anymore.

So the so-called best friends became strangers. "

So that's the summary of the story between me and my best friend. =`(

You've probably thinking I've forgotten about you by now, but that's far from it. I've missed you everyday and my heart still hurts, a lot. I can still smile, I can go on without you by my side, my world is definitely not shattered, but it is not perfect anymore.

I kept everything inside. I always wonder how are you doing, what we used to talk about, the silly things we did together to the laugh in your voice. From all the crazy things we did, swimming, studying, quarreling, and even getting scolded by teachers. Ehem =P Those are memories I'll cherish for a long long time to come. All in all, thanks for participating in my life and you'll remain special in my heart.

Yea, totally agree with that.

Braces

yiyun | 7:26 PM | 2 Comments so far

Miserable six years.

I had to wear the traditional metal (wires/brackets/rubber bands) braces for six years, and it was a miserable experience the whole time.

The pain of having your teeth being forced into a different position and having metal wires and brackets in your mouth that constantly irritated your gums and inner cheeks and tongue was bad enough in itself.

The extraction killed me! I extracted 6 teeth because of overcrowding and I need to take Panadol as pain-killer.

But I was glad to have braces, they may suck, but it will result in orderly teeth, giving you a charming smile.

I hope you can see my teeth here. It's horrible-looking and it made me very self-conscious when I smile or talking to others =(

AND years later, those metal chains equivalent to a chastity belt of today’s age were removed and my teeth had a beautiful reunion with chewing gum and other wonderful non-braces compatible food.

Well, actually I ate all these non-braces compatible food during the grueling six years =P

After the braces come off, it's retainer time.

Tadaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! No more crooked teeth, no more awkward smile =D =D

I wear retainer at night only and I'm glad that I'm free of braces for good.

Life in KMNS (kolej Matrikulasi Negeri Sembilan)

yiyun | 6:31 PM | Be the first to comment!

Many say that college life is an amalgamation of old experiences mingled with the fresh air of a new environment and new faces. But for me, I think, matriculation is a whole new experience for me.

1. Lab

Makmal Sains

Back in high school, Paper 3 was comparatively a breeze. All we had to do was write lengthy procedures of infinite apparatus rinsing and that oh so famous line: “Repeat steps 1-5 by replacing this-and-that with so-and-so.”
In matrics however, we actually have to conduct these experiments on our own. A simple neutralization experiment can take hours when the burette & pipette you’re using has to be rinsed with distilled water over and over and over again. Not to mention the tedious lab reports that had to be done after each experiment.

On the bright side, fancy free labcoat and new friends make the process a lot less painful.

2. New culture

I lived in Malaysia for 19 years, and most of the citizen are Malays. But the thought of living in a place with 90% Malays kind of scare me.

Classmates
Roomates
It turned out not as scary as I expected. I adapted easily into their culture except bathing in the freezing cold water at 5am =P
I skipped meals during puasa month, buka puasa together (sit on the floor and eating with hands), buying food at bazaar......
Trying out inai on my nails for the first and last time.
I waited for 3 months for my nails to grow
 because
the inai couldn't be washed off.

Not many photos to show as they hardly wear their tudung in their respective room.

*Hi =D

3. Class

Matriculation classes differ from high school, almost the same as college.
For starters, we're only taking 7 subjects in total, inclusive of Kemahiran Dinamika, Pendidikan Moral and English which is an absolutely ginormous contrast to SPM.
Secondly, we have classes from 8am-5pm everyday except Friday and the amount of work that has to be done is practically double or triple the usual amount done in highschool.
Thridly, as most of the students are Malays (I'm the only non-bumi girl in my kuliah/lecture ><), the lessons are delivered in BM.

5. Friends

Introducing the MELAKA GANG!!!
Active-est member of PBSM ( Persatuan Balik Setiap Minggu)

Photos taken at 1am haha... Too much stress

I thank God for surrounding me with good and godly friends no matter where am I. We support each other, encouraging and praying for each other constantly.

Glad that I'm no longer stuck in matrics. The place will not be missed haha.

I can still vividly remember how I cried during orientation, how I was counting how many days left in matrics, how I find different excuses to go home during minggu tidak boleh balik bermalam.

All in all, I believe is God's plan that I enter matrics. I learned a lot through the experience, and I hope it prepares me enough to go Australia to study.

A graduation photo to end my post.
